From the beginning
For those new to blogs, they are read back to front. The story begins in the archives with the oldest date and the last story on the page. I will be really pleased when they make that optional. So please dig back through from the beginning to see what brought us here.I would like to dedicate this site to our neice, Jewel, who was wounded in Baghdad June 22, 2005 and to all the wounded veterans who have sacrificed so much for "the greater good".
My goal is to present to the public the problems our wounded are facing in their lives because of the governments unwillingness to spend one dime more than they have to on someone they have designated as no longer useful to them.
In many cases our vets not only could, but would CHOOSE to serve our country's needs in a different capacity so they could remain productive and active citizens. By investing in retraining, rather than classifying them as useless, we could all profit from their experience and knowledge.
Even a person with no legs can teach, so can one with no hands. They would be especially able as social workers in helping our newly wounded soldiers adjust to their traumatically imposed limitations. They understand the process of recovering a sense of self worth and confidence in your ability.
With new technology more is possible everyday for people with severly limited mobility. They could work as trainers in boot camps for class work in weapons training and identifying artillery and bombs or homemade devices. What student would not pay attention to someone who really knew what he was talking about as opposed to a teacher who had never seen combat? Seeing the results of failure or betrayal what student wouldn't study harder?
Just because you can't run doesn't mean you can't coach a ball team or manage a scout troup. Not being able to type won't stop you from writing a book with the "you talk, it types" software available for computers. If you have a strong voice you can do voice overs on training tapes, work in radio or be an announcer for local sports.
All it takes is training and our willingness to put our money where it will always do the most good - education. We are responsible for telling our leaders we want to take honorable care of those we are indebted to for their contributions for our freedoms. Use the links in the sidebar to tell your rep how you feel after reading the soldier's stories here.
